The Philadelphia Magazine/PABJ Summer Editorial Fellowship
Philadelphia magazine and the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists have partnered to create a summer fellowship, with the goal of increasing opportunities for journalists from diverse backgrounds.
Two fellowships are being awarded in 2019. Recipients will serve a 10-week fellowship (June-August) in Philadelphia magazine’s editorial department, getting hands-on experience with fact-checking, reporting and writing. Fellows will work 29.5 hours per week and be paid a total stipend of $4,000.
The fellowship is open to enrolled rising college juniors and seniors and those who have graduated from college within one year of the start of the fellowship; preference will be given to candidates who live in or intend to pursue journalism careers in the Greater Philadelphia region. Eligible candidates must meet at least one of two criteria: 1) be part of a group under-represented in the journalism profession, or 2) have overcome significant obstacles.
Members of PABJ will select six finalists from among the applicants. Philadelphia magazine will interview all finalists, then select two recipients.
Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on April 22, 2019.
