Eagles Not In On Revis, Smith Or Goldson

The Eagles have been linked to several big-name defensive backs in recent days. Here’s the latest on where things stand with each:

Darrelle Revis – The Eagles are not in the mix to acquire the Jets’ cornerback, according to a league source. Reports surfaced earlier today that the Birds were among the teams looking to deal for Revis, but that’s not the case. He will not be coming to Philadelphia.

Sean Smith – He’s considered the top cornerback option on the free-agent market, but we’re hearing that the Eagles are not players for Smith. He is young and has size, but has not been consistently productive.

Dashon Goldson – This one is most likely to upset Eagles fans, but we’re also hearing that the team will not be signing Goldson. Considered the top safety on the market, the two-time Pro Bowler will likely land a nice paycheck, but it won’t be with the Birds.

So, where does that leave the Eagles? They released Nnamdi Asomugha earlier in the day. The team had to wait until the start of the new league year to absorb the $4 million cap hit. The Eagles had previously pushed money from the 2012 league year over to 2013, explaining the delay. The move became official at 4 p.m. today.

The Eagles still need to overhaul the secondary, but it’s expected that they’ll pursue mid-level options, rather than the names listed above.
