Vick: Reid Is Obviously Thinking About Making A QB Change

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Michael Vick

Following a 30-17 loss that the head coach himself deemed “embarrassing,” Andy Reid was asked if a quarterback change was in order to shake the Eagles from their prolonged funk.

“I’ll go back and look at everything,” said Reid. “I’m not going to sit here and make decisions. I’m going to go back, look at it and analyze it.”

Again, no ringing endorsement for the $100 million quarterback. Reid said heading into the bye week that Michael Vick was his quarterback “as of today” and that he would be taking a hard look at all positions. Ultimately, he chose to ride with Vick against the Falcons. But that’s as far as the public commitment goes.

“Obviously he’s thinking about making a  change at the quarterback position,” said Vick. “The thing I do know when I go watch the film and evaluate myself is that I’m giving us every opportunity to win. I’m trying my hardest. Some things don’t go right when I want them to; some things do. If that’s the decision the coach wants to make, then I’ll support it.”

Vick was 20-of-34 for 176 yards with a touchdown and no turnovers, finishing with an 82.5 quarterback rating. He is down the list in terms of reasons the Eagles lost Sunday.

“This was a big game for us — it was one that we needed. Collectively, we needed to put it all together,” said Vick. “We find ourselves in a situation where we didn’t do it. We didn’t play the way we know we can play. Like coach said, it’s flat-out embarrassing.”

Vick has had his share of struggles this season. His 13 turnovers have been severely damaging to an offense that came in ranked 30th in points per game (17.2). On the plus side, he has engineered fourth-quarter comebacks in each of the team’s three wins, and has shown marked improvement against the blitz.

The 32-year-old signal-caller was asked if he believes he’s playing like a franchise quarterback.

“I’m trying to do everything I can to put the ball in the end zone, to give my guys every opportunity,” said Vick. “I don’t know if playing like the franchise quarterback means throwing three, four touchdowns week in, week out and doing everything right. But I know I’ve been there before and, despite it all, I feel like I do a lot of positive things out there. And that’s all I can ask for.”
