Photo: Drone Flying Around Philadelphia Museum of Art

Well, that's one way to prevent art theft.

This morning on Facebook (where else?), we saw this photo depicting a drone flying around the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and we wondered, What the heck is going on here?

Has the NSA reared its ugly head again? Is some sinister anti-art militia on a reconnaissance mission? Or did the Art Museum get a grant to beef up its security force? Nope. None of the above.

According to Stephen Keever, the A/V manager at the PMA, the drone is being used to shoot video for the upcoming building project by Frank Gehry.

“I was doing flybys of the architectural details of the roof line and griffins,” explains Keever. “We are making a past-into-the-future video about the building for this summer’s exhibition on our own building and the huge renovation project designed by Gehry.”
