On a scale of 1-to-Tebow, Nick Foles is now registering.
Most of the storylines coming out of Monday night in New England are of the depressing nature. Michael Vick lost to injury, again; Eagles commit 22 penalties (16 of which were enforced). Offensive line looks leaky; and on and on…There is this one positive that’s coming on like a freight train, though. And it’s really out of nowhere.
With Vick lasting just four snaps, Foles stepped in and went 18-of-28 for 217 yards with a pair of touchdowns and an interception. In two games on this level now, he is 24-of-38 for 361 yards with four touchdowns and a pick.
Andy Reid is forced to entertain real thoughts about moving the rookie quarterback up the depth chart. There’s nothing he said after the win in New England that suggests Foles isn’t in the running to be Vick’s backup.
From Nick Foles to Phillip Hunt, here are some instant observations from what we’ve seen so far in the Eagles-Patriots game.
Veteran defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins did something to draw the ire of Eagles head coach Andy Reid, and cameras caught the heated exchange on television during the second quarter of tonight’s preseason game against the Patriots.
“It’s an emotional game,” Reid said afterwards. “He was fired up. I was fired up. Those things happen. Cullen is my primary leader on that defensive line so I count on him for a lot of things. He was upset, and I was upset. We talked about it afterwards, and we’re ok.”
Michael Vick exited with a rib injury in the first quarter against the Patriots Monday night after being drilled by linebacker Jermaine Cunningham.
X-rays came back negative, but Vick will have an MRI and a CT scan to determine if there is cartilage damage.
“He’s sore,” Andy Reid said. “He was trying to talk me into going back in, so how sore is sore? He got a good shot there. The precautionary measure is just to see if it’s involving cartilage there, and that’s why we’re doing it.”

Nick Foles gained some fans after his performance against Pittsburgh, for sure, but suffice it say it’s still safe for him to leave his hotel room.
“Nothing really,” said Foles, when asked about any notable fan interaction since his preseason debut against the Steelers. “Nothing out of the ordinary. Just sort of go about my business like I always have, and stay the same. No fun stories. I’ve had a couple people say hi and be really friendly. But I usually have my glasses and hat on…that’s how I’ve always been — just really laid back, normal.”
On a scale of 1-to-Tebow, Foles isn’t registering. But another strong outing against the Patriots in prime time Monday night, and he’s sure to have better stories than a couple people coming up to him and saying, “Hi.”

Locally, we hear Michael Vick talk pretty much everyday.
The Eagles quarterback answers reporters’ questions coming off the practice field or at his locker whenever he’s at the Novacare Complex.
But it’s still noteworthy when Vick goes national and is featured on a network like ESPN because it puts the spotlight on him around the country. That can be a bad thing if he isn’t careful about what he says (see: dynasty). But as he continues to work to reshape his image, it can also be a good thing.
