Eagles Sign Aaron Murray To Practice Squad

The Philadelphia Eagles have signed free agent quarterback Aaron Murray to their practice squad, according to an official announcement from the team. In a corresponding move, the Eagles released wide receiver Marcus Johnson from the scout team. Murray, who turns 26 in November, becomes the second former Chiefs quarterback to end up reunited with Doug Pederson in Philadelphia. Kansas City spent a fifth round pick on the former Georgia quarterback in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Murray was an accomplished player in college. He threw 121 touchdowns to 41 interceptions in four years with the Bulldogs. He hasn’t made an impact in the NFL, though, mostly spending time as the Chiefs’ third string quarterback over the past few seasons.

Murray became available to the Eagles after the Cardinals released him from their practice squad earlier this week. He’s now essentially Philadelphia’s third string quarterback since rookie starter Carson Wentz and veteran backup Chase Daniel are the only two passers on the 53-man roster.
