In an effort to flatten the curve, Philadelphians have been staying home. And social distancing, however beneficial and necessary, can make grocery shopping for a week a challenge. Now, more than ever, restaurant take-out and meal delivery services have become extremely important to our relationship with food. Here are a variety of meal prep and healthy meal delivery services that can bring some ease to our food anxieties and promote nutritious ways of eating.

Home Appétit

Home Appetit— which recently acquired another local meal delivery company, Grateful Plate — is a weekly meal delivery service founded by chef Lee Wallach. They guarantee fresh meals crafted from organic, quality ingredients. Every Thursday, a menu for the next week is posted, and you’ve got until Saturday at midnight to place your order. Home Appétit isn’t a subscription service; orders are on a week-by-week basis. Each menu has two parts, “Greens & Grains” and “Entrees,” allowing you to customize dishes with mix and match ingredients. Deliveries are scheduled on Mondays between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Performance Meal Prep

Initially targeting athletes, Performance Meal Prep now caters to all customers. Founded by Jesse Batt, Performance Meal Prep is all about fresh and locally sourced proteins. A new menu is posted every week and everything is priced under $17. A delivery driver will text you when they’re 15 minutes away. Or, you could opt for a pick-up at their facility at 5070 Parkside Ave. Amid the outbreak, Performance Meal Prep will only be offering home delivery within a 40 mile radius and pickup from their production facility at designated times.
