7 Fun (and Some Free!) Mother’s Day Yoga Classes Around Philly

Whether you’re a mom figuring out how you’re going to fill in the glorious free time you requested as your Mother’s Day gift, or a daughter or son trying to figure out just how you’re going to treat your mom to a nice day, one thing’s for sure: Yoga should be somewhere in the equation. And we’ve done the legwork on where you can find a mom-centric Mother’s Day yoga class (some of them are even free for moms) around Philly this weekend. Read up, then pick a class — and if you’re dutifully planning your mom’s Mother’s Day, take credit for the idea. (We won’t tell.)

Where: Mama’s Wellness Joint, 1100 Pine Street, Midtown Village.
What: The Sacred Mother Class ($20), from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, will take you through a Kundalini-inspired moving meditation intended to help you honor, thank, forgive and connect with your mother. Open to kids ages five and up as well as moms, and mom-like figures in your life.

Where: Yoga Habit, 1640 Fairmount Avenue, Fairmount.
What: At Yoga Habit, all of moms (including expecting moms!) practice for free all day this Sunday. They’ve got Power Flow and Slow Flow + Restore on the schedule, so take your pick! Just be sure to show up early; spots will go fast.

Where: 2SP Brewing Company, 120 Concord Road, Aston.
What: Yoga Sundays at 2SP is offering a special stretch-and-sip event in honor of moms. From 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, attendees and their moms can flow together and then enjoy a refreshing 2SP brew afterwards. Moms can enjoy this event for free, but for non-moms it’s $20 per ticket.

Where: CorePower Yoga, multiple locations.
What: Moms can swing into CorePower Yoga (they have a number of Philly-area locations) on Saturday or Sunday for a free class and 20 percent off all retail purchases.

Where: Penns Woods Winery, 124 Beaver Valley Road, Chadds Ford.
What: On Saturday the 13th and Sunday the 14th, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., this winery is holding Yoga in the Vineyard Mother’s Day Edition. For $50, attendees can enjoy an hourlong yoga class, followed by a wine tasting, snacks, a few souvenirs and discounts on wine purchases from the vineyard.

Where: Fairmount Park Horticulture Center, 100 North Horticulture Drive, Fairmount Park.
What: From 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Lauren Daddis from Dhyana Yoga will be leading attendees through a practice under the trees (unless it rains, in which case the class will move into the greenhouse) in celebration of Love Your Park Week and Mother’s Day. The class is free for Fairmount Park Conservancy members and $10 for non-members; you can sign up here.

Where: Wake Up Yoga, 1839 East Passyunk Avenue, East Passyunk.
What: This Alternative Mother’s Day Class aims to be inclusive for all, especially those who might feel left out on Mother’s Day. From 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, all are invited to a yin and vinyasa yoga practice, led by Carolyn Poerio, that will begin with creating an altar of light to help guide the practice. It’s $35 to join.

All of these classes are BYO water, mat, towels, etc. Perhaps an idea for elaborating upon the yoga class gift? A Mother’s Day yoga package? Take it and run, folks.
