To Fill the Wanderlust Void: SANKHYA Studio to Host Free Yoga Fest This Summer

Remember how we told you guys Wanderlust in the City won’t be making its way to Philly this year (or maybe ever again)? Well, you can stop crying now, because the folks over at Northern Liberties’ newly relocated SANKHYA Yoga School and Wellness Center plan on filling the Wanderlust void with Open Heart, an all-day free yoga fest on the books for July. And this day of downward dogging has one up on Wanderlust: It’ll be air conditioned.

As SANKHYA owner Keirra Winters told me, when she learned Wanderlust wouldn’t be happening this summer, first she was bummed, but soon after she realized, it was actually the perfect opportunity for SANKHYA — which relocated from their original Northern Liberties location to 413 Fairmount Street, just a hop, skip and a throw away, in April — to show folks what they’re all about. And that’s where the idea for the Open Heart festival came about.

Open Heart will be held at SANKHYA on July 18th, and the studio will be offering 60-minute Vinyasa classes, taught by SANKHYA, all day long, all of which will be free. When I last spoke to Winters, she mentioned that they’re trying to team up with local vendors as well, but that’s still in the works.

While the Open Heart festival will be many things — awesome, free, air-conditioned — it won’t be nearly as big as Wanderlust: The studio fits around 40 people, so with five classes, that leaves room for about 200 folks to join in on the fun. That said, you might want to hop to it if you’re interested in reserving a spot: Registration for classes is free and open now. You can learn more and register here.
