If you missed out on last year’s inaugural Rescue Run 5K, I’m here to give you very, very, very advance warning about this year’s race: It’s on Sunday, September 28th, in the Navy Yard.

So why are we talking about it five months ahead of time, you ask? Because right now the Monster Milers, the rescue-dog running group that puts on the race, is offering super-early-bird discounts on the entry fee. Until April 15th or until the first 200 bibs are sold, you can score entry for $25. After the promo, it jumps to $30 through June 30th, and then $35 after that until race day or sell out.

The race benefits the Monster Milers, a local nonprofit that pairs over 350 volunteer runners with shelter dogs. The runners take the dogs on jogs around the city. Funds raised at the September race will specifically support the group’s newly launched foster program, insurance and program costs for the volunteer-run organization.

The Rescue Run 5K is chip timed, and, while pups can’t run in the race itself, there will be plenty of adoptable dogs on site at the post-race Rescue Rally. Get more info and sign up here.
