How to Get Free Beer After the Broad Street Run

I was Googling around yesterday looking for info on local hiking groups and stumbled on to the website for TerraMar Adventures, a local company that puts together some pretty rad outdoor adventure trips. Then I got really in the weeds and found a posting for free post-race beers for Broad Street runners in May. So how, exactly, do TerraMar and running go together?

Here’s how: The guy who runs TerraMar is Carl Ewald—he’s the same guy who runs the ODDyssey Half Marathon in June and the new race-training program on the Ben Franklin Bridge I told you about last month. So, obviously, he’s big into running. The ODDyssey will have a booth at this year’s Broad Street Expo, so Carl is teaming up with the folks at McFadden’s at Citizens Bank Park to offer free beer to Broad Street runners after the race.

In case you need a reason to imbibe:

In 2007, researchers at Granada University in Spain, headed by medical professor Manuel Garzon, found that the sugars, salts, and bubbles in beer cause a pint of beer post-workout to be better at rehydrating the human body than water. Because of their great devotion to science, health and beer, the ODDyssey Half Marathon and McFadden’s Ballpark have joined together to help you toast your accomplishment.

The party will be happening from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on race day. To get a free beer, stop by the ODDyssey booth at the Broad Street Expo and you’ll get a voucher for a free post-race drink. The bar is located at the ballpark so it’s ridiculously easy to stop by for a cold one after you cross the finish line in the Navy Yard.

All the details are here.
