PA Drivers: #1 at Hitting Deer

Desperately searching for something to celebrate.

According to State Farm, Pennsylvania leads the nation in car-deer accidents, with 119,500 taking place over 12 months from 2011-2012.

Pennsylvania is the undisputed leader in the number of deer-vehicle crashes, with Michigan a distant second at 87,277, according to State Farm. But West Virginia remained the state where a typical motorist stood the greatest chance of taking a deer in the headlights — a 1-in-38 chance. Pennsylvania was fifth — with a 1-in-73 chance.

Damages in PA stood at about $400 million total. “And that doesn’t count the value of the gardens they devour before roaming onto the roads,” added the anti-deer reporter who broke this story. [Post-Gazette]
