City crime tracker apps are readily accessible in almost every town, Philadelphia included. Much of the crime you’ll see are in the 15 neighborhoods targeted by the city’s PhillyRising Collaborative program, which tries to improve conditions by partnering with residents and community groups. Now PhillyRising has taken it one step farther with the myPhillyRising app. Organized according to neighborhood, the new app delivers up to date news about the events, resources, and general goings-on in your chosen area. Locals are able to post any information they deem community-relevant while PhillyRising staff regulates posts.

The app won’t have a crime map because the aim is “to celebrate communities,” not be a downer to them. The Philadelphia Police Department chooses the lucky few who get a spot on the app, eligibility depending on the neighborhood’s crime and quality of life issues, as stated in the app’s About section.

Current neighborhoods include Point Breeze, Strawberry Mansion, Frankford, and Lawncrest, among others.
