One of our favorite bridal shower ideas is to gather all of the ladies in your life for a classic tea party—complete with big pots of hot tea, too-cute-to-eat sandwiches, and decadent mini pastries. Sure, there are plenty of places in the city where you can stop in for a proper afternoon tea, but we’re partial to the quaint tea rooms that offer the full tea party experience (floppy hats and parasols optional).

If this sounds like an idea your party would love, we suggest you look into the five local tea rooms below. And if you do have a pretty bridal shower tea party at any one of these places, please do send us some photos!

A Taste of Britain
Where: 503 West Lancaster Avenue, Wayne
What: Sundays are reserved for private parties at this adorable tea room in Wayne, where the afternoon tea menu will leave your mouth watering long after the shower ends. Along with piping hot tea, you and your ladies (they can serve parties of 20-45) will nosh on tasty tea sandwiches—like chicken salad and turkey with cranberry butter—plus buttermilk, chocolate chip, and lemon scones. Additional courses and pastries are available at an additional cost.

The Lincoln Room
Where: 28 West Market Street, West Chester
What: The Lincoln Room will reopen next month under new ownership and we (along with their many loyal customers) can’t wait to see what’s in store. Housed in one of West Chester’s oldest and most historic buildings, the ambiance here is the perfect complement to the classic tea sandwiches and sweets.

The Painted Tea Cup
Where: 220 South State Road, Upper Darby
What: Located in a cozy old Victorian home, The Painted Tea Cup has been hosting tea parties for 10 years now. The first floor, where High Tea is served, can accommodate groups of 30 or fewer, while the bedrooms on the second level have been converted into private areas for smaller gatherings. Celebrate your upcoming nuptials here with a wide selection of teas and sweet and savory snacks.

The Picket Fence & Garden Tea Room
Where: 103 Kings Highway East, Haddonfield
What: This dainty tea room and boutique in Downtown Haddonfield is the perfect backdrop for your bridal shower tea party. The pretty murals on the walls and darling décor will make you feel as if you’ve stepped into Alice’s Wonderland, complete with a varied spread of tea sandwiches, scones, petite desserts, and, of course, plenty of floral china tea pots.

Shofuso Japanese House and Garden
Where: Lansdowne and Horticultural Drives, West Fairmount Park
What: Searching for a unique and breathtakingly beautiful location for your bridal shower? Look no further than this historic Japanese garden. Tea ceremonies have long been a significant part of Japanese culture, and here you can schedule a private demonstration for you and your girls with an expert from Urasenke Philadelphia—a nonprofit organization that supports the tea ceremony community in Philly. Traditional sweets and green tea are served.
