Marketwatch: Philly Has 2nd-Highest Tax Burden in Country

Marketwatch, which in addition to markets, apparently watches municipal tax burdens, says that only residents of Bridgeport, Connecticut give more of their incomes back to the government.

A family of three that made just $25,000 a year in 2011 would have been stuck with a tax burden worth a whopping 18.1% of their income, tied with Birmingham, Ala., for the highest of all cities…For a family of three making $150,000 in 2011, the total tax burden was 13.3%.

In case you didn’t compute that–percentage-wise, wealthier Philadelphians pay less in taxes than poorer people do. Though AVI, depending on how its ultimately configured, may even the scales a bit. Oh and I almost forgot, MarketWatch used a lame pre-Comcast Center shot of Philly as their stock image. Boo. [MarketWatch]
