The Very Philly Debut of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon finally debuted last night with a star-studded mix of guests welcoming the SNL alum to his fancy-pants new position. There was a performance by U2, and big namers like Robert De Niro, Lady Gaga and Steven Colbert all made brief appearances, but it’s the numerous Philly angles we’re focusing on today. Check out the highlights brought to you by the 215 below.

This was the first time we got to see the new intro, a Spike Lee-directed video of Fallon strolling through the streets of New York that’s complete with a new theme song by Tonight Show house band The Roots.

West Philly’s Will Smith showed up to join Fallon in a funny skit called “Evolution of Hip-Hop Dancing.” The pair looked so ’90s wearing overalls with one strap loose.

Upper Darby’s Tina Fey was one of a melange of stars, including De Niro, Joe Namath and Kim Kardashian, who came out to settle a bet with Fallon that he’d never be The Tonight Show host.
