The Lion King, now in its incredible 18th year on Broadway, will be returning to Philadelphia this May for a four-week engagement at the Academy of Music. Tickets for the epic blockbuster go on sale this Friday, February 6th—perfect timing for a Valentine’s Day gift.

The show, which features direction and costumes and puppets by master theatrical artist Julie Taymor (the first woman to ever win a Tony Award for Direction of a Musical), has a score by musical legends Elton John and Tim Rice. The musical has been seen by over 75 million people worldwide (I’m one of them: I’ve seen it three times) and has played 19 countries in every continent except Antarctica (it’s too cold for lions there, anyway).

The upcoming Philly run will play May 20th through June 14th, Tuesday through Thursday evenings at 7:30 pm, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm, Sunday evenings at 6:30 pm, matinees Saturday at 2 pm and Sundays at 1 pm. Additional weekday matinees are scheduled for Thursday, May 21st at 2:00 pm and Thursday, June 11th at 1:00 pm. For more information, or to purchase tickets, visit the Kimmel Center webpage.
