Our Golden Globes Roundup: The Good, The Bad, and The Cosby

From NBC.

From NBC.

This is the first awards season that we are lacking Joan Rivers and her always snarky (but true) commentary on the Hollywood red carpet. However, Joan would be proud: One of the subtle themes running through the 2015 Golden Globe Awards, held on Sunday evening, was the empowerment of women and other sexual minorities. Of course, things weren’t too serious: There were plenty of jokes (some in poor taste) and lots of poking fun at North Korea. We figured we’d try to fill in the void of Ms. Rivers by presenting our highlights of the best and worst moments of last evening’s festivities, co-hosted by hometown hero, Tina Fey (and, of course, Amy Poehler).

Naomi Watts and her Stunning Gown: The actress wowed in a yellow (limoncello, as the commentators coined it) Gucci dress.

Stars Wearing “Je Suis Charlie” Buttons: What a classy way to express their support.

Joanne Froggatt’s Speech: She essentially dedicated her award to rape victims who contacted her after they saw her performance on Downton Abbey. Truly touching and moving.

They Loved the LGBTQ Community: Transparent and Matt Bomer from The Normal Heart were big winners.

Margaret Cho: She pretty much was the highlight of the evening playing a North Korean “journalist” who was not pleased with the festivities.

Tina Fey’s Stab at George Clooney: She suggested that his new beard, um, I mean, wife, Amal Clooney, the international lawyer, was the one who should have won a lifetime achievement award.

The Stiletto Cam and Mani Cam on E!: No one really knew how to work the ground-level Stiletto Cam that featured red carpet shoes, and anyone who showed off their feet in HD should get their heads checked. And there was a Mani Cam, where women could put their hands in a box filled with cameras for pictures. Really?

Prince and his Scepter: However, we kind of wanted a Prince cam for the rest of the night:

Where Were Tina and Amy?: They seemed to have vanished after the first half hour of the show, minus a few brief appearances.

Did J-Lo Have a “Wardrobe Malfunction”?: People were raving about her dress, but others, including us, were wondering if there was a little problem:

Those Bill Cosby Jokes: There was such momentum around the empowerment of women throughout the rest of the show that the Cosby opening bit just didn’t feel quite right in retrospect. We’ll let you make the call:

Channing Tatum’s Spray Tan: Seriously?

The Official Golden Globes Website Leaked The Winners Early: Yeah, you didn’t have to stay up late to see who won; due to a technical error, the winners list was published early.

The Hosts on NBC’s Early 6PM Pre-Show: It was majorly amateur hour and made us really miss Joan. To use her words, “Can we talk?”
