WATCH: Wilmington Native Aubrey Plaza Voices Grumpy Cat in New Lifetime Movie
It’s her first-ever movie, and it’s horrible!
Everyone’s favorite Internet meme, the ever-lovable Grumpy Cat, is the star of her own full-length made-for-TV movie this holiday season. Lifetime, which will broadcast the Christmas cinematic romp, released the trailer this weekend.
Here’s the plot summary according to the Lifetime folks:
In “Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever,” Grumpy Cat is a lonely cat living in a mall pet shop. Because she always gets passed over and never gets chosen by customers, this kitty develops a sour outlook on life until…one day during the holidays, a very special 12-year-old girl named Chyrstal enters the pet store and falls in love with Grumpy Cat. A unique friendship is formed between the two when Chyrstal finds she is the only person who can hear this unique feline talk. In the middle of the holiday rush, Grumpy reluctantly thwarts the kidnapping of an expensive exotic dog she can’t stand and rescues Chyrstal after the mall closes on Christmas Eve. Will Grumpy Cat learn the true meaning of Christmas, or will it be in Grumpy’s words, “Worst. Christmas. Ever?”
And who exactly is voicing Grumpy? Wilmington native Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation) will do the honors (although, Glee‘s Jane Lynch was first offered the role … and turned it down).
You’ll have to wait a few weeks to catch Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever; Lifetime premieres the film on November 29th at 8p.m. with subsequent showings on November 30th at midnight, November 30th at 9 p.m., and December 1st at 1 a.m.. You can use #WorstChristmasEver to chat about the movie on social media, and visit the movie’s website for more info.
