The Oval at the Art Museum Announces 2014 Lineup

The Eakins Oval — aka Philly’s Park on the Parkway that was created last year — has announced its activity lineup for 2014. The Oval is an initiative of the Philadelphia Parks and Recreation department, a project to bring a little family-friendly entertainment to this six-acre stretch of Fairmount. Last year activities ran the gamut from late-night movie screenings to a food and beverage truck festival. Here’s what they have planned so far for 2014:

The Arcade @ The Oval serves as a kickoff for The Oval and Philly Tech Week, with food trucks and video games — including the chance to show of your Tetris skills on the Cira Centre building. Friday, April 4th, 7 p.m.

The Farm Festival — an open-air farmers market of sorts — will run Thursday, April 17th to Saturday, April 19th.

Snag some local-made art, clothing, jewelry and other handmade items at PHAIR, from Thursday, May 22nd to Saturday, May 24th.

The Summer Season at The Oval will take place from mid-July through mid-August, which should feature a variety of activities, like the aforementioned movie screenings, weekend festivals and more.

In the fall, the Fashion Festival will take place Thursday, September 18th through Sunday, September 21st.

During “Architects of Air: Miracoco,” step inside a luminarium, “a sculpture people enter to be moved to a sense of wonder at the beauty of light and color.” That’s taking place Thursday, October 9th to Monday, October 13th.
