HughE Dillon One-Shot: Gloria Steinem

Steinem, Christy Turlington and Marion Jones attend the Pennsylvania Conference for Women

Penn State Brandywine student Sara Neville poses with women’s rights pioneer Gloria Steinem at the Pennsylvania Conference for Women at the Pennsylvania Convention Center yesterday. Steinem was the keynote speaker at the luncheon, then did a book signing. Sara came with her professor of women’s studies, Karrie Bowen, and thanked Gloria for the work she had done in the name of women’s rights. Other speakers at the luncheon included model Christy Turlington Burns, who discussed the worldwide status of maternal health, and celebrated-then-scorned-then-celebrated athlete Marion Jones. (Jones won several Olympic medals and then voluntarily returned them several years later, after admitting to using performance-enhancing drugs in 2007.) Jones told the crowd “Take a break” when life is rushing by, or you could make the mistakes that she made in her career.
