Jeffrey Lurie was banking on a rebound season. He looked at the players on this roster and envisioned a rise in production across the board that would take this team out of mediocrity and back to elite status.
Instead, the output has dipped. Very few on the roster are even flirting with the possibility of having a career year. Some have fallen off dramatically.
To illustrate, we compared individual performances from last season with the projected totals for 2012.
Two of the Eagles’ biggest stars are concussed. Just another sign of the times.
Andy Reid gave an update on the health of LeSean McCoy, who was injured in the waning moments of the blowout loss to the Redskins as a result of a head-to-head collision with safety Madieu Williams. McCoy has a headache and remains in “Stage 1” of the league-mandated testing process, but his concussion does not appear to be as significant as Michael Vick‘s.
Here is your injury report for Sunday’s game against the Eagles and Redskins:
Eagles head trainer Rick Burkholder said this afternoon that Michael Vick is “not even close” to being able to get back on the field: “He’s […]
Eagles head trainer Rick Burkholder gave an update on Michael Vick’s condition Friday. It sounds like the quarterback is still a ways off.
“He’s had symptoms all week since the game. He’s had a headache, which has gotten better during the week. He’s foggy. He’s not very alert right now in terms of, he just doesn’t have that energy. He’s tired all the time,” said Burkholder. “He slept a lot. He’s not getting rid of the fatigue. I would consider him heavy-eyed. When you talk to him, he’s just not the Michael Vick I know when he’s healthy.”
The Eagles have officially ruled Vick out for Sunday’s game in Washington.
Michael Vick missed practice again on Friday as he recovers from what has been described as a significant concussion. He has been ruled out for Sunday’s game.
As anticipated, Nick Foles will get his first career start against the Redskins.
Danny Watkins (ankle) practiced for a third consecutive day and is officially questionable. Dennis Kelly, who played right guard in his absence, has been getting reps at right tackle this week and may be called upon Sunday.
Jason Avant (hamstring), Mardy Gilyard (hamstring) and Chris Polk (toe) are all listed as out.
A couple fun facts about Nick Foles:
— He cannot grow a mustache.
— He wears size 16 shoes, second largest on the team behind only King Dunlap (of course).
— He also (allegedly) has the biggest head on the squad.
Those tidbits are courtesy of Trent Edwards, who knows more about Foles than anyone on the team, and it’s not really close.
Much of the conversation in recent weeks has centered around who will replace Andy Reid as the Eagles’ head coach at year’s end.
While that decision will certainly be significant, finding the right quarterback will probably determine when this franchise gets to the Super Bowl next.
As Tim pointed out yesterday, that will likely be the new coach’s call. It could be Nick Foles. It could be someone they draft or acquire via trade or free agency this offseason. It could even be Michael Vick. Who knows?
Below is a list of the coaches and quarterbacks who have appeared in the Super Bowl the last five years.
We know: The Eagles are just a reason to feel bad at this point. Still, if you’re interested in knowing: Backup QB Nick Foles took […]
The Eagles do not plan on making a roster move at quarterback right now. They have had two QBs active for the majority of their games, and feel they can get by while Vick recovers from his concussion.
It is unknown exactly how long that will take. According to a source who had a recent conversation with the signal-caller, the 32-year-old sounded “alert and strong.” While that is certainly good news, it is not necessarily an indicator that he is nearing a return. This week is out. Beyond that is more hazy. Vick still has to go through the NFL’s concussion protocol to be cleared.
In the meanwhile, Nick Foles gets to audition.
Andy Reid on Monday said that Michael Vick has a “pretty significant concussion.”
While the head coach was not ready to rule Vick out, it sounds unlikely that he would be ready to play Sunday in Washington.
“He was a little foggy last night after the incident. Today, he’s resting. Right now, this period it’s very important that he get some rest,” said Reid. “He has a headache, a pretty good one. He’s tired.”
At the very least, rookie Nick Foles will get the first-team reps at practice on Wednesday, and is in line for his first NFL start on Sunday.
