Why Everyone is Geeking Out Over These High-Tech Northern Liberties Homes
With Philly pacing to become the east coast’s answer to Silicon Valley (c’mon, you know you love the Philicon Valley moniker), the value of high-tech and sustainable initiatives is more important than ever. But with all of the entrepreneurial and health-related development going on in the city, we hadn’t quite considered what that would look like for Philly residences. That’s why we were so psyched to learn about 938 New Market, a smart, eco-friendly apartment complex that opened its doors last month.
Situated in Northern Liberties, 938 New Market consists of modern, airy one- and two-bedroom apartments. The team behind the project — Stull Investment Company, Construction Corp USA and FUSA Design — was invested in utilizing integrated building technology to simplify and streamline its residences’ lifestyles. The final product: free business class Internet network, personal cloud storage, ZipCar rentals on-site and Assa Abloy digital locks. The building even boasts a virtual doorman, which, we have to admit is decidedly Jetson-esque. Should residents have visitors, they can direct them to an on-site guest suite hosted through AirBnB.
The features don’t end there, though. There’s also a bevy of sustainable initiatives, which come in the form of a private green roof with entertainment deck (imagine the summer entertaining!), Nest thermostats, a rainwater recycling system, a green cleaning program, irrigated exterior planter system and vertical garden. The building also includes recycled and reclaimed finish materials, and is anticipating an Energy Star approval. Along with that, 938 New Market is pet-friendly and features a dog park and dog wash station right on site.
938 New Market isn’t the only innovative development cropping up in NoLibs. Community working space WeWork is located only steps away at 1010 North Hancock Street. There, they offer private offices and workspaces on a membership basis, as well as weekly events, printing, lounges, conference rooms and community managers (not to mention micro-roasted coffee).
Northern Liberties has already proved itself an ideal locale for innovative spirits. The addition of 938 New Market takes it one step further. This is a paid partnership between Open House and Philadelphia Magazine's City/Studio
