Michelle Wilcox is an event expert from the award-winning Springfield Country Club. Here, she answers your questions about wedding planning to help ensure that your special day (and everything leading up to it) is a wonderful experience.

What advice do you have for newly engaged couples who are just getting started with their wedding plans?

Sit down with your partner and discuss what your priorities are. What is most important? Is it having an intimate ceremony that reflects your commitment to one another? Is it a great party atmosphere with perfect high-energy entertainment? Are you foodies who want to give your guests the ultimate culinary experience? Being on the same page is key and you may learn a thing or two. Most importantly, have fun! Wedding planning can be stressful, but remember what your goals are and keep in mind why you are doing this….to start a beautiful life together.

What is your favorite time of year for a wedding?

Each season has different benefits to hosting a wedding. Spring and summer offer the perfect weather for outdoor ceremonies in our manicured Gazebo and Golf View Garden. Lush greens and the rolling hills of the golf course provide the scenic views from our Golf View Ballroom, making it the ideal location for your cocktail hour and reception. If fall is your season (my personal favorite!), our ballrooms provide the perfect view of autumn sunsets that truly light up the sky with oranges, reds and yellows!  Winter can also be a great time to host your wedding. Some vendors may even offer discounts. Our ballrooms offer romantic fireplaces and are elegantly decorated for the holidays providing an ambience you cannot get any other time of the year.

What wedding trends do you see becoming more popular and which trends are on their way out?

Weddings are becoming more personalized and a little less traditional. Couples are opting out of formalities such as cake cutting ceremonies or garter tosses. Many couples are choosing decadent dessert stations in place of favors. One trend that is definitely staying is the wedding weekend. At the Springfield Country Club, couples can check into one of our luxurious suites prior to their rehearsal dinner, and the next day, they can enjoy a round of golf on our picturesque course or spa treatment at Joseph Anthony. Couples can then join their family for a meet and greet in our restaurant, Tavola. Finally, the big day is here! We take care of all the details so you can relax and enjoy. The next morning, say goodbye to your guests in a relaxed atmosphere during your bon voyage breakfast. We provide the ultimate wedding weekend experience!
