It’s a given that Chestnut Hill is teeming with beautiful, not to mention interesting, homes of decades past, so is it any small wonder we stumbled upon yet another one worthy of being our City House of the Week? Of course not – introducing, the Mulberry House.

Preserved and expanded by its current owners, the pretty Colonial on Saint Martins Lane vaunts several original details in tandem with modern additions. Without going too far, there’s the redone chef’s kitchen, now tricked-out with Rutt cabinets and built-ins; Bosch dishwashers; Corian and granite counters; and two Sub Zeros. Original fireplaces are throughout and the dining room, actually, has original hand-carved trim, as well as access to a terrace and bay window overlooking the luxuriant grounds. The lush outdoor space, we should mention at this point, comes with an original garden wall.

Back inside, the “morning room” has a bevy of windows, bonus dining and sitting areas, and double doors leading out to the rear yard. Moving on from the high-ceilinged first level, an area dominated by plaster moldings and random-width floors, we should note, we make our way to the second floor where the master suite encompasses a sitting area with fireplace, multiple closets, and a full bath. Additional upper levels boast similar suites, but its the rear part of this second story that’s been revamped to include a laundry area and second family room.

Storage-wise, the home is at the top of its game, with a cedar room, linen closet, full basement, and two garages (one for two cars, the other for tools) offering more than enough space to store your valuables. Specs and photos below.
