VP of 500 Walnut on Jay Z/Beyoncé Rumor: “It Is Not True”

Area realtor Michael Angelina says it's "definitely accurate information." A rep from 500 Walnut says not so fast.

Did mega-couple Jay Z and Beyoncé buy the ultra-exclusive penthouse atop 500 Walnut? Michael Angelina, realtor with BHHS Fox & Roach, Society Hill, next door at 530 Walnut Street, says that’s the case. “It’s definitely accurate information,” said Angelina, who isn’t involved in the deal, but maintained his source is sound. “I’m not at liberty to discuss it further.” So we reached out to a rep at 500 Walnut to get the lowdown.

“It is not true,” said Paula Celletti-Baron, vice president of sales and marketing with 500 Walnut, in an email. “It was a realtor that posted the info for self-serving purposes.” That may be the case, though Angelina claims his source has been solid on multiple big stories before they broke. “Do I believe it [the news about Jay Z and Beyoncé]? I don’t know,” said Angelina. “But I believe [my source].” Basically, we’ll have to wait and see.

As far as we know, the penthouse is rated at $17.6 million and will feature a private elevator and a roof terrace with unbeatable views of Independence Hall. Celletti-Baron confirmed the penthouse is a two-story unit with a roof terrace. The price, while mind-boggling in terms of residential real estate in Philadelphia, is certainly within reach of both Jay and Bey. The couple have quite a history when it comes to luxurious residences — and they just lost out on a $70 million mansion in Beverly Hills to the creator of Minecraft. Yes, this is your life when you have lots and lots of money.

If it turns out to be true — you know, Jay Z and Beyoncé having a residence at 500 Walnut — then they’d be in one of the most exclusive buildings in the region, and Philly would be a (probably once-in-a-while) home to two of the biggest celebrities in the entire world. In addition to the bi-level penthouse, they’d get to enjoy robotic parking, a board room, a 50-foot pool with spa, and crazy amounts of privacy.
