Seattle Man Creates Website Devoted to Philly’s Basement Bars

Ryan Nickum, the very funny and creative blogger for the real estate website Estately, became aware of Philadelphians’ proclivity for installing bars in their basements when Estately made Philly one of its satellite cities several months ago. Poring through the Greater Philadelphia area’s real estate listings for blog fodder, he was stunned by the sheer number of basement bars, and what started as a “Jeez, can you believe this city?” observation has now turned into a little bit of an obsession. Nickum describes it as “a grownup version of collecting baseball cards.”

His Tumblr is called Philly’s Basement Bars and features this explanation:

Like nowhere else in America, Philadelphia-area homes are designed for basement boozing. Every home for sale is a speakeasy waiting to happen. Let’s celebrate this.

You will notice that all the homes are for sale and all are listed by Estately, which is a nice perk for his employer. But hey, why not?
