11 Honeymoon Ideas Inspired by the Year’s Best Films

With award season now in full swing, we’re going to be hearing a lot about Mad Max: Fury Road, The Revenant, Brooklyn, Ex Machina and the many other raved-about films that are being nominated this year. And while I admit that I have yet to see any of the big-time Oscar contenders (I plan to get through a handful of them before the February show), there seems to be a ton of excitement around this year’s top performances.

But what does any of this have to do with your wedding, you ask? Honeymoon inspiration, of course!

When you put aside the ravenous dinosaurs, fictional secret agents and Leonardo DiCaprio’s mile-long beard, the real stars of the year’s best films are the beautiful locations that serve as the backdrops—and those places make for pretty awesome vacation destinations.

The Danish Girl will leave you dreaming of Copenhagen’s brightly-colored townhouses. Star Wars: The Force Awakened might convince you to travel to Skellig Michael, a remote island in Ireland where scenes from the movie were filmed. Or, you may find yourself yearning for a trip to Kauai and Oahu, which set the stage for Jurassic World. {Ed note: I just honeymooned on Kauai, and went on a helicopter tour where they pointed out the areas and specific waterfalls used as backdrops, and it was pretty cool.
