Bride-to-be Blogger Leslie: Maid of Honoring

This past weekend I had the great honor of being the maid of honor at my best friend’s wedding, down in Virginia. This was a big weekend for me because it was my first time being in the bridal party of a wedding — and it was also the first of my close friends to get married! It was an emotional weekend and I was so honored to be included in my friend’s special day.

So after this weekend, I wanted to put together a few tips of things that stood out to me from my first experience of being in a friend’s wedding. They’re just a few things that I think are important to keep in mind for anyone involved in a bridal party:

1) Don’t Forget the Bobby Pins I found this weekend that the bridal party was always in search of bobby pins! We got our hair done early in the morning and then the wedding didn’t start until the afternoon. With the heat and the time spent getting ready, hair was bound to fall, and we found we were always looking for a few extra. I even ended up pulling a few out of my own hair for the bride! For the next wedding I am in, the next wedding I attend, and definitely for my own wedding, I will be packing some bobby pins in my purse for sure!

2) Fluff Like You Have Never Fluffed Before A big part of the maid of honor’s duties revolve around the bride’s dress. At my friend’s wedding, I felt like I was on high alert whenever she was moving about — I wanted to make sure the bottom of the dress looked great for pictures! I knew it was very important to the bride, so in turn, it was extremely important to me.

3) If You Aren’t Sure, Just Ask One main thing to keep in mind over every thing else when you are in a bridal party is that if you aren’t quite sure about something going on, or where you’re supposed to be, or something that you are responsible for, just ask!

And of course, the most important thing to remember when involved in a wedding party is that it isn’t about you — it is about the bride and the groom! You are there to celebrate their love and their union together, to be there for your friends, and support them in any way possible.
