Fabiola Cineas, a former teacher who has written extensively about education, and Claire Sasko, a former Philadelphia magazine intern and recent Temple University graduate, are joining the magazine’s staff, editor Patrick Kerkstra announced today.

Cineas, a graduate of Dickinson College and the University of Pennsylvania, has been a regular contributor to the Philadelphia Public School Notebook, where her work focused on the city’s efforts around early childhood education. She also covered New York City schools as a freelance reporter for Chalkbeat NY. Before covering schools, she taught seventh-graders at a charter school in Camden for three years. Cineas begins her role as the magazine’s business editor on June 6th.

Sasko, a native of the Philadelphia area, graduated from Temple University in May with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. She has contributed to SPOKE magazine and interned for both Philadelphia and the Inquirer, reporting on such topics as university-led gentrification, campus crime, Temple’s police force, and the controversial Devil’s Pool in the Wissahickon. Sasko starts as a breaking-news curator on May 23rd.

“Fabiola and Claire are exceptionally talented journalists who are destined for great careers in this business,” said Kerkstra. “We’re lucky to have landed them, and excited about the stories they’ll tell for our readers.”
