Teen Sought for Abduction of Infant

The good news: He probably didn't realize what he was doing. The best news: The baby is safe and sound.

Monday morning was a tense one in West Philadelphia after a car was stolen while a 4-month-old child was still in the back of it. The baby turned up shortly thereafter on the steps of a home in Germantown, unharmed, and now police are looking for the person responsible.

Police say that the teenager seen in the above photo is the suspect in the crime. Around 7:50 a.m., he allegedly stole the white Chrysler Town and Country minivan from outside the 49 Stop convenience store at 4847 Walnut Street while the child’s father was inside making a purchase. Yes, the father left the car on the street (there’s no parking lot there) with the baby in the back. The teen approaches the car and jumps in at around 1:12 in the below video.

The minivan is still missing. It’s a 2013 model with PA tag JMX-6013. Police describe the suspect as follows: “Black male in his teens, light complected, thin build, wearing tan pants, camouflage vest with black hooded sweatshirt underneath, black shoes, and a red umbrella.”
