It was just a couple of weeks ago that the region was first introduced to the Felony Lane Gang, a group described in a February 19th NBC10 investigative report as a “traveling team of crooks” that had recently moved into the area. And now seven purported members of the Felony Lane Gang are in custody after a wild police chase.

The drama unfolded on Tuesday afternoon in Tredyffrin Township when police responded to a report of suspicious activity in the parking lot of the Wendy’s on Swedesford Road. According to the 911 caller, someone was changing plates on two cars.

When police arrived, they ordered a Chevrolet Suburban and a Dodge Journey that were at the scene to stop. They managed to detain the people in the Journey, but the Suburban fled, striking an occupied police cruiser twice. A car chase ensued, eventually winding up on northbound Route 202 and then eastbound on the Schuylkill Expressway.

The Schuylkill being the Schuylkill, there was heavy traffic just before the Belmont exit, forcing all of the cars to stop, including the Suburban, which then hit another police car. Two of the suspects inside the Suburban jumped out and attempted to run away. Here is police dashcam footage showing that moment:

The two fleeing suspects led police on a foot chase across all of the lanes of the highway and then into the Schuylkill River. The two suspects who remained inside the Suburban were taken into custody immediately. Police say they recovered dozens of “identity documents,” including driver licenses and credit cards, that did not belong to any of the suspects.

Investigators now say that at least 20 of those documents belong to identity theft victims from the region and that when the victims were contacted by police, they confirmed that they had been targeted at local child care centers and other locations. Police say that the alleged Felony Lane Gang members would use the stolen identities to cash bogus checks in the names of the victims.

The driver of the Suburban has been identified as Sherry Howard of Baltimore. The Suburban passengers were identified by police as Kennon Seymour of Ft. Lauderdale, Jeremy Espenshade of Baltimore, and Jerome Glinton of Ft. Lauderdale. The suspects in the Journey were identified as Heather Miller of Baltimore, Jeremy Evans of Baltimore, and Ashley Hamm of Ft. Lauderdale.

The suspects are being charged with aggravated assault of a police officer, fleeing police, receiving stolen property, identity theft, criminal conspiracy, and access device theft. According to the Tredyffrin Township Police Department, the suspects have more than 100 arrests between them and face outstanding warrants from regional jurisdictions. They are being arraigned on Wednesday.
