More than $20,000 has already been raised for the “recovery fund” being collected for a Philadelphia Police officer who was shot three times in a West Philadelphia ambush last week.

Nearly 500 people have contributed $22,545 in the two days since “Jesse Hartnett’s recovery fund” was set up at GoFundMe.com.

“We are grateful that he survived the attack, but he has been left seriously wounded,” wrote Mike Lukasak, who served with Hartnett in the Coast Guard. “His road to recovery will be long, but he has the heart of a fighter.”

Lukasak set up the fund with an initial goal of raising $15,000 to help Hartnett; it took just a day to reach that goal.

“We continue to be astounded by the generosity of so many people who have taken the time to make a donation to Jesse’s recovery fund, and we truly appreciate each and every donation,” organizers wrote.
