Philly Cop Arrested in Upper Darby for Assault, Harassment

One of former Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey's last acts was to suspend Office Deric Lewis for 30 days with intent to dismiss.

Philadelphia Police Officer Deric Lewis was arrested and charged with simple assault and harassment for an incident in late December.

Philadelphia Police have suspended an officer after he was charged with simple assault and harassment in Upper Darby. The police department has suspended him for 30 days with intent to dismiss.

According to a release from the PPD, Police Officer Deric Lewis was picked up by Upper Darby Police after a domestic altercation with a woman on December 28th. The cops say Lewis did not comply with requests for identification and conducted himself in a disorderly manner.

Lewis, 35, is a nine-year veteran of the department working in the 19th district, which covers Overbrook and parts of West Philadelphia.

Before leaving office, in one of his final acts Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey suspended Lewis for 30 days. Lewis was not on duty at the time of the incident in December.
