Wendy Kopp’s Nonsensical Tweet About Philadelphia Schools
Whether Philadelphia schools have improved or not since the state-controlled School Reform Commission took them over a decade ago is a hotly debated topic. But perhaps last night–the night the SRC approved a severely austere budget that could mean thousands of job losses and program cuts–was not the moment to take sides.
Wendy Kopp, founder of Teach for America, typed this extremely ill-timed tweet yesterday.
In Philadelphia today. So much more to be done, but I can’t get over the progress in this city’s schools in the last decade!

Perhaps she should have taken her cue from Superintendent William Hite, an ally of the ed reform crowd, who said the budget “in no way fits my idea of education.”
