John Roberts’s Lesbian Cousin Will Attend SCOTUS Gay Marriage Arguments

Younger people support gay marriage more than their parents do. One likely reason for that is that they know a lot more gay people. (Rob Portman, who came out in favor of gay marriage last week, said his son’s homosexuality influenced caused the change of heart.) Does Chief Justice John Roberts feel the same way? In attendance during tomorrow’s oral arguments on the constitutionality of California’s Prop 8, which overturned the state’s same-sex marriage law, will be Roberts’s lesbian cousin Jean Podrasky, who lives in San Francisco and wants to marry her partner of four years.

He is a smart man,” she said. “He is a good man. I believe he sees where the tide is going. I do trust him. I absolutely trust that he will go in a good direction.

Podrasky’s tactic might be the right one: Obama made a similar, guilt-tripping, prediction when Roberts was deliberating on the fate of the Affordable Care Act. [LA Times]
