Te’o Admits He Lied. Noooooooo!

In an interview slated to air on Katie Couric’s syndicated talk show tomorrow (wherever that airs), and excerpted on Good Morning America today, Te’o told Katie Couric that he did briefly lie in December about his fake girlfriend, pretending she was dead when he knew she was alive. Though “she” in this case doesn’t really mean anything, so make of that what you will.

Katie, put yourself in my situation. [My] whole world told me that she died on Sept. 12. Everybody knew that. This girl, who I committed myself to, died on Sept. 12…Now I get a phone call on Dec. 6, saying that she’s alive and then I’m going be put on national TV two days later. And to ask me about the same question. You know, what would you do?

The formerly highly touted college player remains adamant, however, that he had nothing to do with the hoax. [AP]
