Broad Street Run Switches to Lottery System

Did you spend four hours clicking a refresh button on your browser earlier this year to earn yourself the opportunity to pay $40 to run down Broad Street? Yeah, so did the rest of us. It was a frustrating morning filled with keyboard slams, grunts, and, eventually, triumphant exclamations echoing from Philly Mag offices as staffers successfully registered for the Broad Street Run. Luckily, that’s a thing of the past now that the run has switched over to a lottery format. In 2013 there will be a two-week period in February when you can enter your name into the lottery. Then, officials will pull names from the lottery. If your name is pulled—“Primrose Everdeen”—you’ll get a bib. If you want to volunteer (“as tribute”), you can register to run for charity starting today. [Be Well Philly]
