Get Ready for Digital Ads on Your Newsstands

As City Council is ready to consider a new bill for digital advertising, Philly takes another small step toward becoming Times Square. Councilman William K. Greenlee introduced a bill on Thursday that would allow newsstands to don digital ads—or vinyl wrap ads—on all sides. A seven-percent excise tax, similar to the one already imposed on advertising on private property, would allow the city to generate some more more while small-business owners get an added source of revenue.
