It’s Illegal to Wear Bathing Suits on the Boardwalk?

Thou shall not peruse the vast selection neon, plastic hermit crab habitats or play skee-ball whilst donning swimming trunks. That’s basically what a little-known local ordinance reads in Asbury Park. The ordinance makes it illegal for anyone “clad in bathing attire” to be on the boardwalk or the “public walks adjacent thereto.” A former city councilwoman is asking that the ordinance—which might date back to the 19th century—be enforced so that skimpy attire doesn’t ruin Asbury Park’s reputation as a “classy” beach town.
