Feds Crackdown on Chinatown Buses for Safety Concerns

The Chinatown buses are who we thought they were. Today the federal government shut down 26 Chinatown bus operations—including 10 lines run by a Philly-based firm—for safety violations. New Century Travel Inc was among three firms that operated the 26 lines targeted by the feds for violations that included using improperly licensed drivers, not administering regular drug and alcohol tests to drivers, operating buses that had not been regularly repaired or inspected, and allowing drivers to break work and rest rules. It’s the largest such crackdown in the last decade. [Philly.com]
