St. Joe’s Grudge Benches Former Hawk

Meet former St. Joe’s starting center Todd O’Brien. O’Brien enrolled as a graduate student at the University of Alabama Birmingham, is on the basketball team there and has one year of eligibility left in his collegiate career. But, Todd O’Brien hasn’t logged one minute of game-play this season because St. Joseph’s University and Hawks head coach Phil Martelli adamantly refuse to release O’Brien as a part of the NCAA’s Grad Student Transfer Exception rule. It’s alleged that O’Brien has not been released because Martelli feels that the player wronged him by leaving to study and play elsewhere. [Sports Illustrated]
