The Liberty Bears Want Your Coats

The bears kick off a coat drive for Philly's homeless

Want to donate? Just look for these boxes at venues throughout the Gayborhood

The Liberty Bears of Philadelphia have once again kicked off their annual coat drive to benefit the Philadelphia Committee for the Homeless Day Shelter (807 Broad St.). For the past six years, the non-profit organization has been looking for ways to contribute to the community through special events and fundraising efforts.

“The last time we did this, we delivered about 30 contractor (39 gallon) bags stuffed with coats,” says Thom Caggiano, Liberty Bears of Philadelphia president.

The guys are looking for new or gently used coats in good condition for the drive now through Dec. 10. “People can also bring jackets, sweaters, hoodies, etc., to the drop-off sites,” says Caggiano.

There are 10 drop-off sites throughout the Gayborhood, including at The Bike Stop, Woody’s, Uncles, Tavern on Camac, Westbury, ICandy, Voyeur, William Way, Club Body Center and the Sansom Street Gym.

“If you don’t see the boxes when you walk in,” says Caggiano, “please ask the staff.”
