Friday, Oct. 21
At noon today there’s a memorial for Frank Kameny, the gay pioneer who made a huge impact on LGBT rights by spearheading the “Annual Reminders” and encouraging the federal government to end the policy of firing gays and lesbians from civil service jobs. The memorial, which features several guest speakers including the William Way’s Christopher Bartlett and City Hall’s Gloria Casarez, takes place at Sixth and Chestnut at the Gay Pioneers historic marker.
Queer Eye’s Ted Allen joins other well-known foodies at the Philadelphia Food and Wine Festival (4 p.m.) at the Valley Forge Convention Center. The festival features special events through the weekend.
Screw Smart presents “Starting from the Bottom” during Sexploratorium (7 p.m.) at Passional.
Start Halloween early with Terror Behind the Walls at Eastern State Penitentiary (7 p.m.). Also keep an eye out for G Philly‘s upcoming Halloween roundup of events.
One of our favorite drag queens Tammy Faymous hosts Rock ‘N Roll Teaserama (9 p.m.) at Johnny Brenda’s. The live show also features The Flying Graysons, Coffin Fly, Ang & the Damn Band and Gold Crowns, with burlesque by The Infamous Miss Mae, Lady Saint, Tesla Tease and Oscar Wildchilde.
October Stimulus takes over the Marathon Grill on 10th (10 p.m.) with DJs Kash and Sparkles.
DJ Deejay is at Sisters (10 p.m.) with a lineup of Beyonce, Britney, Gaga, Katy, Ke$ha and Rihanna.
It’s Freaky Friday at the Sansom Street Cinema with a DJ, open bar and much more.
Saturday, Oct. 22
Take the kids (and Fido) to the Spooky Saturday Costume Contest (11 a.m.) at the fountain on East Passyunk.
ActionAIDS celebrates its 25th anniversary (7 p.m.) at the Arts Ballroom.
Voyeur hosts “Scaredy Cats 2: The Shriek-quel!” (8 p.m.) to benefit City of Hope. Stylists from hair salons will battle it out in the 16th annual hair design competition for best color, most intricate design and most outrageous with music by DJ Randy Bettis.
Dust off your fishnets and check out The Rocky Horror Picture Show (8 p.m.) at the William Way. The pre-show gets started at 7 p.m. with a costume contest.
This month, G2 (9 p.m.) benefits ACT UP Philadelphia and the AIDS Coalition at Tabu. Come in costume for one-dollar off the cover.
Jocks take over the Venture Inn (9 p.m.) with proceeds benefiting the Greater Philadelphia Flag Football League. DJ Salotta Tea spins music all night long.
