Fierce Competition at Gayborhood Games

RuPaul Drag Race alum Mimi Imfurst to challenge the hometown queens and much more

As we get ready to judge the Gayborhood Games on Saturday, Sept. 17, at Voyeur (G Philly‘s Editor Natalie Hope McDonald joins the panel of judges this year), it was announced that New York City’s own Mimi Imfurst, a very popular contestant on RuPaul’s Drag Race, will be kicking it up a notch by competing against hometown queens for the title of best drag act.

All we have to say is: Local queens, you better work. Last night, the “Dollhouse Revue” star said she intends to bring it on Saturday. And we believe her.

“Mimi joins Harrisburg’s Poison as the second Gayborhood Games competitor to challenge the hometown Philadelphia queens,” says Bruce Yelk, the event’s creator. “In addition to Mimi, semi-regular ‘Dollhouse’ star Satine Harlow also announced she intended to compete at the games, as well.”

The games feature nine drag performers in all, as well as competitions for cooking, bartending, singing and comedy. Brittany Lynn is the host.

In addition to Imfurst, Poison and Harlow, the drag acts also include Diana Dharling, Porcelain, Alize Beau Hennessy, Tammy Faymous, Navaya Shay and Starkle Tinsley.

In the comedy corner, Alejandro Morales will go up against Rae Drew, R. Eric Thomas and Di Hargrove, while the vocal challenge is pitted between Bianca Linblad, Thom Sirkot and Jonathan Newman.

“In addition to the live competitions taking place on stage,” says Yelk, “bartenders and chefs will be competing.” Bartenders will create creative concoctions off stage (the judges get to taste test them, so no roofies, please!). Area chefs will also be baking up the best cakes. So much for counting our calories.
