What We Love: Sangria Slushies
One way to beat the heat this summer is with a day trip to Chaddsford Winery in Chester County. Less than 30 minutes outside Center City by car, the winery is not only nearby, but it’s home to several special events throughout the summer – and lots of local sipping.
The winery is nestled in a tiny village in the heart of the picturesque Brandywine Valley. Consider taking a tour of the barrel-aging cellars before enjoying a wine tasting in a restored Colonial-era barn. Visitors can also enjoy picnics on an expansive outdoor deck or in the vineyard.
Through August 16, the winery hosts “Friday Nights Under the Stars” at the Brandywine Polo Field with wine, food, music and a polo game in Avondale.
And this weekend (July 10 from noon to 6 p.m.) Chaddsford also hosts “Sangria Sundays” with live music by Drew Nielands. The winery will be serving sangria slushies by the glass in the outdoor Tiki Bar with grilled eats by Nick’s Chicks.
If you can’t make it to the event, the folks at the winery shared their recipe for sexy sangria slushies:
Step one: Fill one-third of a blender with ice.
Step two: Pour in a bottle of Chaddford Sangria.
Step three: Add one can of frozen lemonade concentrate.
Step four: Mix the ingredients into slushies and serve.
If you don’t have Chaddsford’s pre-mixed Sangria available, you can make your own sangria using an inexpensive chianti and preferred vodka. Here’s our suggestion:
1 bottle Chianti
1 bottle of club soda
6 ounces of your favorite vodka
3 ounces of orange juice
Half can of lemonade concentrate
Mix it all together with ice, blend and serve in a tall glass with your favorite seasonal fruit garnish.
