Celebs Spotted at GLAAD Awards

Ricky Martin, 30 Rock and others take home honors over the weekend

What do Philly native Tina Fey and Ricky Martin have in common? They both walked away with GLAAD Media Awards during a ceremony in New York on Saturday. Honored for their work promoting positive images of gays and lesbians in the media, GLAAD – which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year – honored dozens of celebrities, TV shows, movies, magazines and websites for their work toward LGBT equality.

“What an honor,” said Martin, who accepted the award for his charity work. “I have no words but to say, ‘Thank you.’ GLAAD has helped me so much. A couple of months ago, I was being attacked by someone in the media in Puerto Rico, and I called GLAAD and I said, ‘What do you do? Because I’m new at this, I really don’t know what to do.’ And they said, ‘Don’t worry, we’ll take care of it.’ And they hopped on a plane and they went to Puerto Rico and they did what needed to be done. And today, Puerto Rican television is one step closer to being free from hate, thanks to GLAAD.”

Martin also publicly thanked his boyfriend Carlos.

“The year’s honorees, nominees and award recipients represent diverse stories that are building acceptance and understanding about our community through their excellent work,” said GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios.

Below is a complete list of this year’s GLAAD winners. Additional awards will be presented in Los Angeles on April 10 at the Westin Bonaventure – with special honoree Kristin Chenoweth and special guest Colin Farrell, and in San Francisco on May 14 at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis.
