What to Watch Tonight

Two exquisite movies with Julianne Moore

Rent It: The Kids Are All Right (R, 2010). An exquisite movie with exquisite performances. Annette Benning and Julianne Moore shine as a couple whose teenage children (Mia Wasikowska and Josh Hutcherson) decide to locate their sperm donor father, Mark Ruffalo. A small, but powerful film that will be on the Best Picture shortlist. My Grade: A

Queue It: Far From Heaven (R, 2002). Julianne Moore is flawless in Todd Haynes’s deconstructed and sumptuous 1950s suburban melodrama that examines interracial relationships and homosexuality. Moore brings a lovely and sad lilt to this restrained woman as her perfect world comes crumbling down. It also boasts an impressive performance from Dennis Quiad. My Grade: A-
