The Best B&B Getaways: The Atlantis Inn
65 miles from Philadelphia (1 hour and 15 minutes by car)
After an afternoon spent on the porch watching myriad Lexuses and BMWs drive by the turn-of-the-century lodging house that Kristina and Robert Doliszny had just bought from her parents, the couple had an epiphany: Even smack-dab in the middle of America’s Greatest Family Resort, there was clearly room — and the clientele — for something a little, well, fancy. And so in 2002 they gutted the place, installed sybaritic bathrooms with Jacuzzi tubs and body-spray showers, imported elegant European antiques and Anichini linens and Bulgari soaps, decked the veranda in Honduran mahogany, installed a 1,600-square-foot deck — and then found themselves with an inn that rivaled even the beach for guests’ attentions. You’ll see: This is a luxury resort in the form of a grand old seaside Victorian, with sunny yellow walls, a spacious rooftop deck, goosedown on the beds, and rockers on the veranda. There are baked goods galore at teatime, an on-site spa for a little massage action, Asbury Avenue shopping just steps away, and luscious strawberry crepes (with Nutella, if you wish) at the nearby Ma France Creperie.
