Center City dwellers began heading to Phoenixville to dine at BYOB Majolica. Soon they’ll discover the town’s burgeoning brewpub scene (Sly Fox gets company from Iron Hill this September) and expansive
Saturday farmer’s market.
Delaware County
Strip-malled Newtown Square balances upscale and everyday. Sip cocktails at Roux 3’s happening happy hour, dress up for Thai at Teikoku, or munch on Neapolitan pizza at Fresco Pizza & Grill.
Main Line
Once upon a time, the far Main Line hungered for quality dinner options. Help for the Malvern/Berwyn area has arrived in the form of Buddakan-like Nectar, seafood-savvy Restaurant Alba and others. (Look for another from Nectar’s owners this year.)
Montgomery County
Ambler’s civic-minded restaurateurs are slowly changing quiet Butler Pike. Look for dine-arounds and other great deals at places like Pacific-influenced Bridgets 8 West, Mexican Agavé Grille and Cantina, and the Shanachie Irish Pub.
Philadelphia
We wish we lived in Northern Liberties, where low-key restaurants are turning out tuned-up favorites—from heirloom tomato juice at Honey’s Sit ’n’ Eat to cupcakes at Brown Betty to the still-delicious Standard Tap pulled pork sandwich.
South Jersey
First, Nunzio Paturno (ex-Primavera) opened Nunzio’s Ristorante Rustico on Haddon Avenue. Then Larry Grillo (ex-Tierra Colombiana) opened Nuevo Latino spot Casona, and Kevin Meeker (Philadelphia Fish & Company) opened New American hit Cork. Hint: Follow their lead.
